A license plate widget for the Home Screen and CarPlay

Your plate is the number you type into parking machines, rental desks and insurance forms, and never remember. A plate widget puts it one glance away, styled like the real thing.

What it is for

Practical first: parking apps, garage barriers, toll accounts, rental returns and insurance claims all ask for the registration. The widget shows it on the Lock Screen without unlocking the phone. Then it is also, admittedly, the nicest-looking thing on a dashboard.

Styles by country

Plates are not one shape. Otto draws the Euro band with the country code you choose, plus black, white and yellow plate styles for the UK, US-style and others. It was built for any country, not one; pick the style, type the plate, done. Plate styles beyond the default are part of Otto Pro, a one-time purchase.

On the CarPlay dashboard

Because CarPlay draws widgets without a background, a plate widget has to paint its own plate, band and edge. Otto's does, so it looks like a plate in the car rather than floating characters. It is a small widget, so it fits one dashboard slot; add it from Settings → General → CarPlay → your car → Dashboard, see the setup guide.

Privacy

The plate is stored on the phone in the app's own container and never sent anywhere. There is no account and no server behind it; deleting the app deletes the plate.
